Yesterday, we once again started the day with a class at the
Center of Hellenic Studies. The topic of today was a continuation of the topic
of shrines, but then we veered into taking about the places that we would be
visiting in the coming week including Sparta, Mystra, Kalamata, and Olympia
before returning for one more night in beloved Nafplio.
After class, Brittany, Maura, Caroline, and I climbed to
steps to Palamidi Fortress. (Unfortunately, I forgot my camera at the Center so I did not actually get pictures on the hike, but Brittany said that she would send them to me, so I will share them with you in due time.) Though there are a supposed 999 steps leading to
the fortress, I only counted 922 (Caroline counted 924). After the long hike up
and back, we went to our favorite hangout to get the town’s best gyros one last
time. I ate not one, but two—no shame! After that, I went back to the Center of
Hellenic Studies to conduct a couple of hours of research and bought myself a
last taste of the to-die-for Italian gelato in coffee and zuppa inglese
flavors. Later that night, we were able to meet and go out with some of the
other summer interns that also studied at the center. All in all, it was a
much-needed day to relax and research.
