An old mosque in Syntagma Square, Nafplio. |
Today, after breakfast, we went to tour the Archeological
Museum of Nafplio. This museum used to house many of the important artifacts
found at the site of the city of Mycenae along with others from the area of
Nafplio. However, years ago, these artifacts were removed and placed instead at
the museum at the actual site of Mycenae, resulting in the inventory of the
Archeological Museum of Nafplio being greatly reduced. This loss was
“compensated” by revamping the museum and making the interior and the exhibits
quite beautiful.

My AMAZING gyro. |
After we toured the museum, my roomie, Maura and I spent the
next five hours working on our projects in the Center of Hellenic studies.
Taking a study break midway through, we went to a scrumptious gyro place and
had a delicious lunch. That night, we met up with other exchange students from
America—they were from Coe College in Iowa.

Ceremonial terracotta masks. Most likely used for cultish practices. |

This vase contained the prize of olive oil for the winner of the Panathenic Games held every four years in Athens. It was essentially Athen's version of the Olympic Games. This was most likely for an equestrian event--the oil would go to the owner of the horse, not to the jockey who had ridden the steed in the competition. |

I would love to wander through those museums with you. Mr Ted would say it would take hours and hours because I don't want to miss a single thing when we go to museums. He says I have to read EVERYTHING. Have a wonderful Lord's day. Love you miss Betty
